Recent Rome hail event on 21st of October 2018 shows the trend of more extreme weather situations and is the perfect example to illustrate the importance of accurate and high-resolution weather forecast.
Indeed, Metigate's weather tech team (Yann Amice, Blandine L'Hévéder and Gilles André) showed that Metigate's 1km weather forecast model managed to anticipate a hail event in Rome between 19:00 and 20:00 whereas standard open source weather forecast models (NOAA GFS in this case) did not see anything. The figures below describe the GFS forecast 20 hours before the event, only showing precipitations whereas the other map shows that Metigate's 1km model was forecasting hail.

Weather accuracy is often key as it has a direct impact on the efficiency of the decisions someone would take based on this information. This is exactly why Metigate develops continuously its expertise in weather data!
